SUMMARY:WMS Snack Attack - Donations Needed!
DESCRIPTION:The WMS PTA is hosting a SNACK ATTACK for 180 teachers and staff on March 11 from 11 – 1 pm. As in past years\, we need your help/donations for this much appreciated gesture for the hardworking WMS staff. Please sign up here to donate to the menu and/or help with setup\, staffing\, and cleanup. Feel free to sign up for one or multiple slots – all donations are appreciated. The PTA will provide sandwich platters and decorations.\n\nAll contributions (marked for SNACK ATTACK and in disposable serving trays) need to be dropped off by 10 am in the Staff Lounge the day of the event. Non-perishables may be dropped off the day before. DESCRIPTION:What the Signs of Suicide Prevention Program is… \n\nA way to help students recognize the symptoms of depression and warning signs of suicide in themselves or their friends\nTeach them about appropriate steps they should take to get help\n\nWhat the Signs of Suicide Prevention Program is not… \n\nA way to diagnose students with depression\n\nThe SOS program will… \n\nHelp youth identify the signs and symptoms of depression\, suicide\, and self-injury in themselves and their peers.\nProtect students by helping them to identify mental health concerns and encourage them to seek help from trusted adults.\nLearn the ACT model.\n\nWhat parent can do: \n\nDo not be afraid to talk to your child about suicide and mental health.\nKnow the risk factors and warning signs of youth suicide.\nRespond immediately if your child is showing warning signs.\nRestricting access to lethal means\, especially access to firearms\, is very important in preventing youth suicide.\nReach out to the school for resources.\n\nThe program will consist of: \n\nA video about depression\, the signs of suicide and the steps you take if you feel you or a friend is at risk.\nA depression screening form for the student to complete.\nA list of coping strategies for the students.\nExit ticket\n\nThe SIGNS OF SUICIDE program will be presented to 8th grade students ONLY the week of October 7 to 11\, in their Health & PE classes.
