DESCRIPTION:What the Signs of Suicide Prevention Program is… \n\nA way to help students recognize the symptoms of depression and warning signs of suicide in themselves or their friends\nTeach them about appropriate steps they should take to get help\n\nWhat the Signs of Suicide Prevention Program is not… \n\nA way to diagnose students with depression\n\nThe SOS program will… \n\nHelp youth identify the signs and symptoms of depression\, suicide\, and self-injury in themselves and their peers.\nProtect students by helping them to identify mental health concerns and encourage them to seek help from trusted adults.\nLearn the ACT model.\n\nWhat parent can do: \n\nDo not be afraid to talk to your child about suicide and mental health.\nKnow the risk factors and warning signs of youth suicide.\nRespond immediately if your child is showing warning signs.\nRestricting access to lethal means\, especially access to firearms\, is very important in preventing youth suicide.\nReach out to the school for resources.\n\nThe program will consist of: \n\nA video about depression\, the signs of suicide and the steps you take if you feel you or a friend is at risk.\nA depression screening form for the student to complete.\nA list of coping strategies for the students.\nExit ticket\n\nThe SIGNS OF SUICIDE program will be presented to 8th grade students ONLY the week of October 7 to 11\, in their Health & PE classes. SUMMARY:2019 PALS Orientation Day for 6th Graders
DESCRIPTION:Do you have an incoming 6th grader? Then you want to be a part of PALS Orientation Day. PALS Day\, or Pizza\, Agenda\, Lockers\, Schedules is where incoming 6th grade students can meet their homeroom teacher\, get their locker assignment\, and walk their fall schedule. It’s also an opportunity for parents to come and listen to a presentation that will spell out things like use of technology\, after school activity options and what role the PTA has in the community. \nLetters will be mailed this week that will tell you who your student’s homeroom (or TA) teacher will be for the school year. Each team has a different time slot: \nGrizzlies 8:00 – 9:30am\nPanthers 9:45 -11:00am\nCoyotes 11:30am – 1:00pm \nThere will be pizza served in the cafeteria as teams finish their sessions. Parents can also purchase PE uniforms in the gym during this time. \nDo not worry if you will be out of town for this event. Your new 6th grader will be assisted on their first day of school.

These WMS families will enjoy a much brighter holiday because of your generosity! Our goal is to collect gift cards from local grocery stores (such as Safeway\, Giant\, or Harris Teeter) and retail establishments (such as Target\, Marshalls\, TJ Maxx\, Burlington Coat Factory\, or Ross) for $25 to $50. \nIf you would like to support this important cause\, please sign up at Wolves Helping Wolves 2018 so that we can begin tracking donations. DESCRIPTION:This year\, Arlington Public Schools is partnering with Healthy Schools\, the nation’s largest school vaccine provider\, to offer flu shots to all APS students during the school day. Our goal is to keep all our students healthy and to help fight the flu this season by ensuring that flu shots are available to 100% of APS students. The copay is $0\, so there is no cost to families. \nThe Healthy Schools flu shot clinics will be staffed by qualified nurses who have been trained to care for kids. The nurses are often local to our community and may even be an APS parent!  \nThe flu shot clinic at WMS will be held on Monday\, December 3 from 8:15 to 10:45 a.m. All students were given forms and flyers to take home on Oct. 19\, but we know that these sometimes get lost in backpacks. SUMMARY:Wolves Helping Wolves Gift Card Drive Begins November 28!  
DESCRIPTION:This holiday season\, the WMS PTA and our school Social Worker\, Mary Dolby-McDonald\, are organizing a gift card drive to support WMS families in need. These WMS families will enjoy a much brighter holiday because of your generosity! Our goal is to collect gift cards from local grocery stores (such as Safeway\, Giant\, or Harris Teeter) and retail establishments (such as Target\, Marshalls\, TJ Maxx\, Burlington Coat Factory\, or Ross) for $25 to $50. \nIf you would like to support this important cause\, please sign up at Wolves Helping Wolves 2018 so that we can begin tracking donations. Please drop your gift cards in the collection box in the WMS school office marked “Wolves Helping Wolves” between Wednesday\, November 28 and Friday\, December 14\, 2018. \nOnce all cards are collected\, Ms. Dolby-McDonald will deliver the gift cards to the appropriate families with a holiday greeting.
