Deadline for School Transfer Applications

November 26, 2018 by Liz Crescioli

Application Process Now Open for School Transfers

APS is now accepting applications for secondary option schools/programs and neighborhood transfers until 4 pm Friday, January 18, 2019. The process for applying to countywide programs is available on the school options webpage. From now on, all families need to apply for the option schools or programs in which they are interested every year to be included in the lottery; wait lists will reset annually after the lottery is conducted. Families interested in applying for a secondary option school/program or a neighborhood transfer should complete the Secondary School Options and Transfers Application through the online application portal.

Middle school boundary changes come into effect for the 2019-20 school year. Many children at Williamsburg have been redistricted to the “New School” (Stratford site). If you wish to have your child remain at Williamsburg, you need to apply online as though this is a “transfer.”Please note: the deadline to apply for a “transfer” to stay at Williamsburg is about a month earlier than for school-to-school transfers. Your child will no longer be eligible to ride the bus if you successfully “transfer” to stay at Williamsburg, unless the rules are redefined.

APS Is Offering Free Flu Shots on December 3

November 26, 2018 by Liz Crescioli

This year, Arlington Public Schools is partnering with Healthy Schools, the nation’s largest school vaccine provider, to offer flu shots to all APS students during the school day. Our goal is to keep all our students healthy and to help fight the flu this season by ensuring that flu shots are available to 100% of APS students. The copay is $0, so there is no cost to families.

The Healthy Schools flu shot clinics will be staffed by qualified nurses who have been trained to care for kids. The nurses are often local to our community and may even be an APS parent!

The flu shot clinic at WMS will be held on Monday, December 3 from 8:15 to 10:45 a.m. All students were given forms and flyers to take home on Oct. 19, but we know that these sometimes get lost in backpacks. So, there are two more ways you can find out more about the flu shots and sign up your child to receive the flu shot in school:

Check for the flyer and forms that have been posted on Peachjar
OR visit: apsvaflu.com.

WMS Science Fair

November 26, 2018 by Liz Crescioli

Volunteer for the WMS Science Fair!

This year’s science fair will be held on January 12, 2019. Please volunteer as a science fair judge! Having a successful science fair depends on the help of people in the community coming to review our students’ hard work.

Want to help out at the science fair, but not as a judge? There are many other important roles. Contact Stephanie Japec if you are interested.

Your involvement will help ensure that this is a spectacular science fair that both students and adults will enjoy and encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and math fields!
