October PTA Meeting – Learn More About Sharp Increase in Teen E-Cigarette Use
Morgane Bennett, Senior Research Associate at Schroeder Institute, and Amy Taylor, Senior VP for Community and Youth Engagement,Truth Initiative will be presenting on e-cigarettes and JUUL at the October 9 PTA meeting. The Food and Drug Administration issued a statement this month saying that there is a “disturbingly sharp rise in the number of teens using e-cigarettes.”  Many are pointing to JUUL as the culprit for rise in teen use.
JUUL is latest vaping product that has sparked widespread concern among public health officials, medical professionals, school administrators and parents. Parents should know more about JUUL because of its powerful punch of nicotine and that it may be putting a new generation of youth at risk of tobacco use and nicotine dependence.
Also presenting will be Kelly Decker from Second Chance Arlington, an educational program for Arlington middle and high school students who have been experimenting with alcohol and/or drugs. The program helps teens learn how substance use affects their physical and mental health so they can avoid using drugs and alcohol.
Please join us at 7:00pm on October 9th for the meeting in the WMS library.
